Piñatex™ is a low-cost, animal and environmentally friendly alternative to animal leather that was discovered in the Philippines. The company Ananas Anam produces and distributes this fabric that was inspired by the Cradle-to-Cradle approach and that is made from pineapple leaf fibers that are a by-product of the pineapple harvest. This means that no extra land, water or fertilizers are required to produce Piñatex™.
The leather-alternative is perfectly suited to make shoes, bags, accessories or even car seats. PUMA and Camper, among others, have used Piñatex™ for their shoe prototypes.
