Katrien Van Hecke

Katrien Van Hecke is an Antwerp-based fashion and textiles designer. She developed a production process using only natural dyes (mainly plant-based pigments such as carrots, berries, tree bark, leaves and wood) to paint textile.

Van Hecke believes in an individual, alternative approach that stands out from mainstream fashion. Every garment can be considered a separate item, given that each piece of textile is individually dyed by hand and therefore unique.

All the fabrics that Van Hecke uses are hand-pressed and steamed in her studio. No toxic ingredients are involved in the process, to ensure the soft feel of silk, wool and recycled mixtures.

The collections are produced in Belgium, and Van Hecke makes a point of working only with high-quality materials.
